Natural Disasters: What To Do

The most important thing you can do to stay safe during a natural disaster is to be prepared. Know what to do if a wildfire, flood, earthquake, or other community safety issue occurs, and be ready with an emergency plan.

How can I prepare for an emergency?

Planning ahead can help you stay safe and make it easier to respond during an emergency. Preparing in advance also helps you manage unexpected situations that may follow natural disasters, such as power outages, transportation disruptions, or communication challenges.

Here are a few steps you can take:

Keep enough non-perishable food, water, prescription medications, and other essential supplies to last several days.
Make a plan for how you will stay in touch with family, caregivers, or your support network.
Know your local evacuation routes and what to do if you are asked to leave your home.
Keep important documents and emergency contact information in a safe, easy-to-access place.
